We've moved into the new house now finally after much messing about, i'm just glad it's all over now. But along with our new foray into 3 floors living it's about time i retired our current phone system and upgraded it with new shiny things.
Many of you have see the colourful or distorted words around the net which you have to enter to prove you are really human and not some machine trying to take over the world. These are called Captcha's. The boys over at reCAPTCHA have hit upon a novel idea whereby all this wasted energy can be put to good use.
"reCAPTCHA improves the process of digitizing books by sending words that cannot be read by computers to the Web in the form of CAPTCHAs for humans to decipher." [more]
Pretty cool eh? Now if there were only a way of getting tea made without all the energy wasted i'd be a happy man.
An expertly assembled video of this monday's climbing activties by our very own dempo.
This story from the register is outlining how Vodafone plans to implement a per application charging model. It can't be long now for blanket 802.11x coverage to obsolete a standard GSM phone service. How long will it take for companies to start realising it's us, the consumer which call the shots now. We have companies like Google and Apple being enablers for the masses. Allowing us to do things how we want to do them and not have limited imposed on us by companies always looking at the bottom line and fear of loosing control.
Why in this day and age can we send emails, send instant messages, talk over VOIP from our computers to a landline or mobile, talk over video, in fact just about every communication method conceivable all for free, but still have to pay a per usage model for our traditional phone services and mobile phone services. It just doesn't make sense. The technology is here, its only a matter of time before companies either evolve or die!
Doesn't take a lot to entertain the average (windows using ;)) AV guy. Bucket of half used batteries and a large flat surface. Keeps 'em going for hours.
I don't know if this is adequate to describe it, but it is rather cool.
Just through I'd change the design of my vox to reflect my time of secondment in London with one of my employer's clients.
My current dilemma is down to the earphones to use on the tube. I normally either wear cans or listen to music in the car using my ipod. Now I have to adapt to new ways of appreciating my tunes. The problem with the tube is that it's so loud and the problem with the Apple standard headphones is that they aren't that good generally, but more specifically in sound isolation.
I'm currently undecided about which i like best out of my shure e2c's and the new (£25) Apple in-ears. Review coming soon if i can make up my mind (which is probably unlikely).
