I think I'm probably one of the first in the UK to get my hands on the XBOX 360 HD DVD Drive. Just watching my one HD DVD now (King Kong came with it). Don't we all remember when we got our first DVD, how amazing we thought it was, well i have to say that HD is a hundred times better. It's pretty good and i'm only on 720p!
The main sacrifice we have to make to getting HD on the cheap is the flippin' noise the XBOX makes! Now I have my stuff in a cupboard under the tv but then the second of the XBOX's problems comes to light. About half way through a film it turns itself off after overheating.
I imagine i'll take some pics and get them posted up here at some point.
Ok ok,
I went for the 850IS. So far it's looking good (the face tracking is just amazing!), apart from the feeble 16MB sd card you get with it. At full resolution you get 5 shots on it, 5 SHOTS! I have a 2GB one coming soon so that should suffice.
Now I just don't know what to go for. I've got it down to 4 cameras all with their relative merits and weaknesses. I'm very much a Canon/Sony junkie so I'll probably end up going for one of those, but I'm open to alternatives if they present themselves. So far the list is thus:
- Sony W100
- Canon IXUS 850IS
- Canon IXUS 900Ti
- Nikon P4
First of all may i take the opportunity to welcome you to my first vox blog posting. Long may it continue (well for at least a week or two until i forget i have this).
Now i have a dilema. I'm looking for a worthy successor to my ageing Sony DSC-F505V, now getting on to close to 6 years old. I do take plenty of photo's with my Canon 10D but i find that people seem to act differently when a massive 70-200 f2.8 lens is thrust into their faces. I'm looking for a decent (read expensive) compact to carry around with me for those times when a Digital SLR is 1.) Inappropriate and 2.) When i'm not wearing my super size pocket combats with titanium utility belt. The canon 900 Ti looks pretty tasty, but something is telling me i'll get frustrated by it's lack of manual control (mostly Av and Tv). But then I tell myself, I can do all that on the propper SLR. Hmmmm
So you’re just minding your own business, trundling down the street on your very own ‘personal transporter’, and what happens? Suddenly your world starts going in reverse and there’s nothing you can do about it! Well that appear to be the story from Segway. A bug in the operating software which “can unexpectedly reverse the direction of the wheels which can cause a rider to fall”.
I guess lets all hope that the bug isn’t time based too. Can you imagine the panic in the streets as pedestrians take flying leaps onto the nearest road to avoid being flattened by an out of control Segway. Not the mention the poor unfortunate soul holding on for dear life!
The reg has full details on it here.
I’d be interested to see how this fairs against the likes of paypal. Whilst i have nothing against paypal, with the mighty google in the picture i can see them making more that just a little impact in the world of online payment processing. The advantages of the google system is that it will link in with your adword campaigns, giving you free payment processing for every £x’s of adword ‘tokens’. As opposed to the likes of worldpay and secpay which charge per transaction, this is effectively giving you a load of free adwords tokens. Nice!
On the recommendation of my friend at work i opted to buy an LG 32 LCD (32lx2r). Well all i can say is that I’m very disappointed. Reading about it seems that many LCD have the problem of rendering black correctly (my Apple Cinema Displays however don’t have this problem - go figure). When the LG is just showing something which is meant to be black it’s just grey (backlight showing though) and as you can imagine this affects the picture you can get from the set.
In addition to this problem it won’t work with a sky+ remote version 6 and below (which is the current model) and doesn’t auto switch on receiving a wide/not wide signal from the channel. All in all i’m very disappointed and in addition to that curry’s won’t take it back! I always buy Sony! Why did i do this? No worries it’ll not happen again!

Who say’s that nice people don’t exist anymore in big cities? Heading over to watch Mission Impossible 3 in Leeds with Steve, we decided to call into Nandos in the Light. After finishing our burgers we were greeted by a Waitress asking if we going to be watching the footy or Pirates of the Caribbean on the 6th of July. We you can imagine my response! Footy pah, who watches that! Which of course turned into a full on conversation about films etc.. Once i get going on films there’s no stopping it
Following our conversation she offered to cover our deserts. I was just blown away by that. Not that anyone will ever read this but that was just super kind! Thank you! Now i admit not many of you would find this very interesting but to me it offers a glimmer that people do exist in big cities which have time for others.
This is turning into a ‘people who have been randomly nice to me’ blog… lol
Looks like the people over at the Swansea North Residents Association are up in arms about a Tango TV Ad filmed on their doorsteps. Complaining about the fruit pulp on their streets. Don’t know about you but i think the film is fantastic! Top dog tango! (Assuming you don’t get sued by Sony ;))
[edit] Well it actually turns out that the whole site is a clever marketing ploy by tango (or their advertising partners). Still fantastic!
